STATEMENT: KENTUCKY FAIRNESS ALLIANCE PRAISES NORTHERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY for ADOPTION OF FAIR HEALTHCARE
Highland Heights --- The Board of Regents of Northern Kentucky University voted today to offer extended health benefits to employees' families, including committed unmarried couples. A "qualifying adult" must have lived in the employee's household for at least 12 months and demonstrate financial interdependence with the employee.
"It's a great day for NKU and for Kentucky's fair-minded majority," said Wes Wright, legislative liaison for the Kentucky Fairness Alliance and Northern Kentucky University alumnus. "Today NKU establishes itself as a fairness leader, becoming the first regional institution in our state to implement a fair healthcare policy."
Northern Kentucky University joins University of Louisville and University of Kentucky, as well as nearby Ohio institutions, University of Cincinnati and Miami University, in offering such benefits. Major regional employers such as Kentucky-based Toyota and Cincinnati-based Proctor & Gamble also practice fair healthcare.
