REP. KATHY STEIN, REV. TODD EKLOFF TO JOIN KENTUCKY FAIRNESS ALLIANCE BLUEGRASS CHAPTER FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY MATTERS
Lexington --- Rep. Kathy Stein (D-Lexington) and Rev. Todd Ekloff of Louisville will join the Bluegrass Chapter of the Kentucky Fairness Alliance for Marriage Equality Matters, a free educational forum on marriage equality.
The event will take place at 1:00 p.m. on October 7th at the University of Kentucky Law Courtroom at 620 S. Limestone, and will educate the public on the subject of marriage equality. Evan Wolfson of Freedom to Marry and David Rush of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale will be the featured speakers.
Marriage Equality Matters will begin with the UK theater department’s reading of Rush’s play, Tying the Knot. The play follows three same-sex couples through their relationships and explores the result of denying them equal marriage rights. Rush will follow the reading of his play with a question and answer session.
Next, Wolfson will join the audience for a casual reception with refreshments. Wolfson will give a short presentation on his work with marriage equality and moderate a panel of selected guests during a community dialogue. Audience participation and questions will be welcome.
The Bluegrass Chapter looks forward to hosting this community gathering. “Marriage Equality Matters is an excellent opportunity to educate ourselves and each other about gay and lesbian issues,” said Cindy Downey, chair of the Kentucky Fairness Alliance Bluegrass Chapter. “We hope that bringing Evan Wolfson and David Rush to the community will produce a huge turn out with lots of audience participation.”
Forum organizer Paul Brown agreed, “Bringing leaders in the marriage equality movement to Lexington is our privilege, our chance to give back to a community that has given a lot of time, money, and energy to support a Fair Lexington. I hope everyone interested in marriage equality will come contribute to the conversation.”
