Family Visibility Comes to Kentucky
April 10, 2006
Frankfort --- The Kentucky Fairness Alliance has joined the Family Pride Coalition in inviting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender families to participate in the second annual Easter Egg Roll at the Governor's Mansion.
On Saturday, April 15, families from across the state will gather for treats, games, and activities, including an Easter Egg Roll on the Mansion's north lawn. The Kentucky Fairness Alliance is organizing LGBT families to join in this new Kentucky tradition.
"We're really looking forward to celebrating our families at the Egg Roll," said Kentucky Fairness Alliance Executive Director Christina Gilgor. "My three-year-old son is sure to have a ball, and I'm personally excited to join other LGBT parents in introducing our families to Kentucky in a positive light."
Family Pride estimates approximately 9 million children are growing up in LGBT-headed households. "We strive like every other parent in this country to give our children the best opportunities, to shower them with love, to teach them respect and a love for the rich and diverse traditions America has to offer them,” said Family Pride Coalition Executive Director Jennifer Chrisler.
Family Pride will host a national visibility action the following Monday at the White House Egg Roll. Families who are interested in participating in either event can get more information by visiting www.kentuckyfairness.org or calling the Kentucky Fairness Alliance toll free at (866) 205-3239.
