Led by featured performer Josephyn Edwards, the event brought together friends of fairness from around the Commonwealth to share an evening of music and entertainment. "A Run for the Pansies did just what we planned for it to do... increase visibility and the idea that it takes everyone in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community working together towards fairness to see success," said Jody Cofer, KFA Board Chair and Run for the Pansies organizer. He added, "I look forward to seeing the KFA continue Lobbying 101 Empowers Fairness Alliies
As a result of our Lobbying 101: Raising the Voice and Visibility of Fairness sessions in Lexington, Louisville, Elizabethtown, Somerset, Richmond, Morehead, and Florence, more than 100 people received training on the do's and don'ts of lobbying legislators. KFA was pleased to see many of those same people put what they learned into practice in Frankfort on February 22 by talking to representatives and senators as part of our Kentuckians Value Fairness Day at the Capitol. “The goal of traveling around the state and training people about lobbying was to remove the 'fear factor' and enable more people to take part in the democratic process,” said Wes Wright, KFA Community Organizer and Legislative Liaison. “So many of the people we had trained in the small towns as well as the larger cities, showed up at the Capitol on February 22, and that was gratifying.” |
