Introducing AmpersandBuilding the buzz
For those reasons, we're delighted to introduce the Ampersand (seen right) - the meaningful new image that graces the pages of this newsletter, and soon will appear on every KFA publication in print and on the Web. Why the Ampersand? Why not the equals sign preferred by so many LGBT rights organizations? Why not the pink triangle, or the rainbow that has so long stood for our community? The answer is simple. We're not like so many LGBT rights organizations. We are the Kentucky Fairness Alliance. We are dedicated to building solidarity with all fair-minded Kentuckians. Doing so means a commitment to inclusion - and that's what makes the Ampersand an ideal symbol for KFA. Sure, our long-term goal is equality for every resident of the Commonwealth, but we also recognize the power of the process. Achieving equality will take more than simply changing laws. We also must change attitudes, minds, and hearts. We must build connections with our neighbors and our lawmakers, relationships that refute stereotypes and undermine prejudice. The Ampersand logo affirms our commitment to building a fair Kentucky through person-to-person contact in every corner of the state. The Ampersand also provides the anchor for our Friends & Family club. Members receive a distinctive lapel pin bearing our new image. Those pins are fast becoming the way we identify ourselves as fair-minded Kentuckians with a commitment to equality. They also create great opportunities to start conversations about Fairness with folks in your community. Use the link at the bottom of our newsletter pages to join Friends & Family today. Start your membership and start reaping the benefits: your lapel pin, a subscription to the Friends & Family newsletter Amper&and, and invitations to special members-only events. Most of all, you'll know you are doing your part in the statewide struggle for fairness. Thank you for supporting the Kentucky Fairness Alliance. You are the seed from which our circle of Friends & Family will grow. |
