The University of the Cumberlands has become a defendant in a lawsuit that argues that an $11-million appropriation for a pharmacy school and scholarships at the Williamsburg school violates the state constitution.

The plaintiffs, who contend that the appropriation is unconstitutional because the university is a religious institution, are: the Rev. Paul Simmons of Americans United for Separation of Church and State; the Rev. Albert Pennybacker, former national president of the Interfaith Alliance; the Jefferson County Teachers Association; Christina Gilgor, executive director of the Kentucky Fairness Alliance; and the alliance, a gay rights organization.

Today's Louisville Courier-Journal reports that the University of the Cumberlands is seeking to intervene in our lawsuit to block the proudly discriminatory, Baptist-affiliated school from receiving our tax dollars. Story here...
